Bangladesh: People From Mro, Tripuri Communities Stage Protests Demanding The Protection of Their Ancestral Land

 



People from Mro and Tripuri communities staged protests on Tuesday on the High Court premises demanding the protection of their ancestral land from Lama Rubber Industries Limited in Bandarban Hill District.

The programme was held without any sound system due to the instruction given by the police in front of the High Court.

Police official mentioned " If they want to continue their protest then we urge them to hold protest in front of the National Press Club or the Central Shaheed Minar. They can also file a case for getting the jsutice".

The protest was organized by Lama Sorai Bhumi Raksha Sangram Committee where politicians, rights activists and student leader were present and expressed their concern for these indigenous communities.

Rangdhajan Tripura, a convener of Bhumi Raksha Sangram Committee mentioned, "Lama Rubber Industries Limited increased the torture on us so that we leave our ancestral land and they can grab the whole land for their benefits"

He also mentioned "Lama Rubber Industries falsely accused them and filed cases against them to harass and humiliate "

Jatiya Mukti Council general secretary Faizul Hakim said, ‘Mro and Tripura communities are holding protest in Dhaka against torture and land grabbing by the powerful businesses. Common people and those living in the hills have no rights, nor do they live in peace and security.’

Harun-ur-Rashid, general secretary of  Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani Parishad, Mitu Sarkar, president of a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, Socialist Student Front central general secretary Shovon Rahman, among others, spoke at the event.
