Manipur is at the ethnic clash between the majority Meetei and Minorities Kuki Tribe. Manipur has a long rich history and culture of Meetei and their kingdom. According to official, more than 35000 people displayed due to this clash.
Tribal got furious and started protesting the prospect of Manipur's majority Meitei community being recognized as "Scheduled Tribe".
On Wednesday, Tribal people march a protest rally then they attacked on Meitei community which made Meitei community to fight back. Minorities Kuki, Naga and Mizo community operate more than 30-40 militant groups collectively which has cross border function.
The Reason of Meitei and Minorities:
Kuki- Mizo which are the tribe live in India as well as Myanmar and Bangladesh also, Kuki people has been fighting against Burmese Army for decades to get their rights which led 30-40 thousands Kuki people to displaced. The number of immigrants are rising which is the concern for Meitei Community.
Meitei community fear Kukis of Manipur are sheltering the immigrant under the ST which making the population grow. Meitei is the original tribe of Manipur, being original tribe Meitei people can not buy land in their own state because Minorities can buy land in the hill and forest area.
Meitei Community:
1. They are the original indigenous tribe of Manipur , so they have the right to get ST.
2. Kukis are cultivating poppy for funding their militants groups.
3. In every Govt office , Meiteis are neglected and Kukis are getting rights.
4. Meitei people are fearing the same situation like Tripura...Immigrant Population increased and the original tribe became minorities.
Kuki Community:
1. They operates more than 30-40 militants groups which make Kuki people more strong.
2. They want to hold the ST so that they can get more advantage and protection.
3. Kuki people want to shelter their people from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
4. They want to continue cultivate poppy so that they can fund their militant groups.
Why Kuki People Became Aggressive??
Kuki people is one of the tribe living in Manipur. Kuki people has a large population in Myanmar and a small amount in Bangladesh. Under Indian Constitution, Kuki people are enjoying "Scheduled Tribe" status which gives them power and protection as well as advantage. Meitei People are getting "Scheduled Tribe" which made Kuki People furious and why???
Because in hill and forest area, Kuki People are doing poppy cultivation to fund their militants groups.
Currently Kuki militant group like Kuki National Army is fighting against Burmese Army in Myanmar and Kuki Chin National Front is fighting against in Bangladesh. So a large number of kuki people are displacing everyday and taking shelter in India. Kuki People of Manipur also giving shelter to them along with Mizoram Kukis.
Meitei people are not listed as ST in Manipur and they can not buy land on hill area making them living in plain areas. If Meitei people listed in "ST" category then they could buy land in hill and forest area in Manipur. Kuki people fears that Meitei will not allow Kuki from Myanmar and Kuki wants to increase their population in Manipur so that they can control over as Meitei are peaceful and not own active militant groups.
